The title for this is solely because, when was trying to think of one, this song by Natewantstobattle came up on my playlist & it was too good of a coincidence to ignore. (It’s just for the title, the lyrics don’t really match)

Technically this takes place any time after ep: 110 but while I allude to stuff that happened in 109 111 I don’t think I actually mention anything that happens after ep 59

Dream Alone )

I like how the 2 times Paultin has guest stared in another game (other than the 'C' team or Nate DMing) it’s been some sort of astral shenanigans. I know it's really because of how it’s the easiest way to just drop a player in a random game but it gives me some interesting ideas for headcanons. Like how Vistani usually travel around but Paultin’s now stuck in Waterdeep so his mind is doing it instead. Either that or rescuing Evelyn from the Soulmonger with that Nate20 had lasting consciences.

I had an idea for a DCA fic in my head for a while now but it was just so hard to start writing it.
In an effort to just get it on paper I wrote out an outline.
I was sorely tempted to just leave it as a fic idea but I knew it was short enough that there was really no excuse not to just get it down.

I wrote the outline out in a few minutes since I had already worked out the plot. But it's taken me the last few days to get the fic out.
I am so slow at this.

I'll post the fic tomorrow. I want to go over it a few more times to proof read it even though I know I'm still going to miss mistakes.

This is the outline I wrote:

This takes place during ep 85.

A Night in the Shadowfell )

I cut a lot more forth wall stuff from this including a reference to the fact the this fic take place during the middle of the ep so there was about 1 hr left in it. This is the ep that Chris says that Paultin sees the 4th wall when he’s drunk but he’s mostly sober in this. Besides, I always liked the theory that the whole 4th wall thing was something that got worse the more trauma he goes though. And, oh boy, the eps coming up.

I don’t know if it was too subtle but I’d like to point out that Paultin’s looking at his fingers when he’s talking to Gutter not because he needs to see what he’s doing but because he needs to make sure that he’s not wearing the ring of winter.
The last magical talking item he had was pretty manipulative, I think he actually appreciates that Gutter is pretty up front about the fact he just wants to stab things.

About Paultin not caring about Diath’s secrets, well he said outright that he has a bunch of his own. The difference between them is that Diath tries to be responsible & it crushes him when he fails. Whereas Paultin tries desperately to make sure no one ever relies on him at all.

Also the bit where he exercises during his watch is a headcannon of mine since he seems like the kind of guy that doesn’t want people to know how much work he puts into things, see the above sentence of not wanting responsibility. But the guy has the second highest strength score in the party. And he maybe an alcoholic but he’s also a survivor. He’s not going to do something like get drunk on watch or something but it’s a long time to on you own with your thoughts. Not his strong suit I’m guessing.

This thing could probably use more polish but I have no one to beta this so I might as well post it

So I finally caught up on all the episodes of Dice, Camera, Action.
Watching/listening to about 3 eps a day in work helps you tear thought things.

It's a pity the drama means it's unlikely to ever be finished but it was a good show.

I also watch all of Dark & Dicey.
A very different type of D&D since that were more on the evil side of things but absolutely hilarious.

I’m up to ep 118 now on Dice, Camera, Action.

I still haven’t caught up but I couldn’t resist looking up fic though I am trying to avoid spoilers.

It’s kind of hilarious that the payers have written fanfic for their own characters.

Not just back story either, Anna wrote a High School AU.

Before I read that I was actually thinking what a collage AU would be like.

Strix would be someone who didn’t pay go to college but was sitting in the back of classes & taking advantage of student stuff. She would be squatting with Diath, who she knew before, as she was technically homeless.

Diath would be a scholarship kid. Overly serious because he knew what was at stake. He’s always working so hard no one would ever expect him to be hiding/covering for Strix.

Paultain would be the dunk that goes to all the parties. Everyone always assumes someone else invited him & all the frat boys think he’s part of someone other frat. He comes across as such a uncaring ass no one realises he’s actually studying music pretty seriously.

Evelyn would be the student who, until now, had only ever gone to religious schools. Trying to find her place in the world, slightly naive but not as weak as she looked.

I then thought further how, as these are the waffle crew, their back stories would actually be much more darker then that.

Spoilers for the parts of their back stories found out by ep 118 I guess )

Wow these guys’ pasts are dark.
My original idea for this AU was it to be something light-hearted.

Opps.

I haven't fully caught up on all the eps of Dice, Camera, Action yet but I'm past the 100 mark and one thing I find funny is the groups attitude towards money.
Most adventuring groups at their level have got plenty of gold. Not these guys. The only reason they even have a place to stay in is because is was literally handed to them.

It's all entirely in character for them to be so bad with money.

Strix grew up in a trash heap on another plain & has no concept of the value of things.
She never had money so never had to learn how to deal with it.
She may cut off bits of monsters for use but the group, as a whole, tend to forget to loot bodies for actual valuables.

Diath grew up on the streets of Waterdeep. He's used to not having money so is used to dealing without it. He may the most practical member of the party but as long as he's got everyone enough equipment & provisions he's happy. He's also a character who was never into adventuring for the money so tends to forget about it (the group never seems to ask for rewards).

Evelyn handles money a lot like Diath but coming from the other side. I think Strix & Diath don't think about money because they never had it but Evelyn doesn't think about it be she always has. She grew up with a well to do family & then was trained in a temple were all her basic needs were filled so she's never had to think about saving for the future. She has no problem spending money on pretty things as she always assumes there will be some around. She also is very much into doing good for goods sake so doesn't think about payment or anything.

This means the most financial aware person in the group is the drunk bard.
Paultin is technically to only one of them keeping them in the black.
He has the Hut so they don't need to worry about shelter & since day one he used his performances to win them free room & board in taverns and stuff.
The only thing he cares about using money for is for more wine & since he can always wangle free drink if there are other people around he doesn't have much else to spend it on. He is the only one of the group to ever really get paid for anything with his busking & stuff.
I headcannon that he actually has a line of credit in a number of places they have traveled to but he drinks so much that he's forgotten about it.

I think its hilarious.

A lot of people have recommended for me to watch Critical Roll.

I’d like to, but the massive amount of episodes & the fact they are all at least 3 hrs long (understandable, since my own games take about 4 hrs) is pretty intimidating.

Now, recently I’ve been listening to Natewantstobattle’s music & I found out that one of his songs is based on his D&D character.

Long story short, I still haven’t seen any of Critical Roll but I’m now on ep 28 (out of about 130) of Dice, Camera, Action

*sigh*

I make bad choices
(it's a really good show though)
