I been noticing that my wrist was really hurting me in work and I was wondering why until I realised.
It's been so long since I've worked more then one day at a time in an office I had forgotten that I need a mouse mat with a wrist rest.
Obviously I have one at home but there none in work.
I've brought in my home one but looking at how battered and ratty it is I think it's time to by a new one.

In other news we've all got our new D&D characters and one of the players is a war-forged that has axes that come out of his arms.
It's such an obvious image I thought there should be a gif somewhere of something like it I could post but I couldn't find anything.

So I just made one:

Now I have to all the training.
It's going to take me a while.

Good new though, I'm starting to get the hang of the drive up.
It's basically: main road, not that turn off, not that turn off, that turn off. Main round past 2 roundabouts up to a sharp turn left of the main road. Keep going until the wolds most awkward 4 way crossroad and down past the garage. Keep going until you see the waning signs about a bridge with a weight limit. Go slow because the turning onto it is easy to miss. Make sure no one's coming the other way because the bridge itself can only fit traffic one way. Go up a winding road the barely fits two way traffic and in no way should be a 80 km zone. Turn at the heritage sign. keep going down a thankfully wider road with a much more reasonable 60 km limit. right at the road the tunes into 2 roads and take the lower one. Pass the school and hope you don't get stuck in there traffic. Straight through town. Pass the heritage sign you don't turn at. keep going until the roundabout back onto a main read. Left turn just arfter under the bride into the business park.

I can just about navigate without using google maps.
which is good because ever since I sinced my phone to my car the sound cuts of for the direction and I can't figure out how to get it back.

Unfortunately My laptop hasn't arrived so I couldn't do anything.

I did manage to get a temp laptop today so I can start some of my training.

I got a phone call yesterday for one of the jobs I was waiting to hear back from.
I got the job!
I just have to go through the contract and sign it and I'll be starting in Dec.

It's such a relief to not have to slog though the job search anymore.

Of the 3 jobs interviews I had around the time I broke my leg I've still only heard back from the first one (that I didn't get it).
I also still haven't heard back about the illness benefits nor the possible medical card.

I did at least get an update at the doctors appointment today.

I thought it'd be only 3 weeks but I was told that since I was only in the soft cast for 10 days instead of 2 weeks to be safe they are going to leave me in the cast for another 4 weeks and then I have an apportionment on the 4th of Oct to get a boot cast and I'll finally be able to weight on the leg.

In the meantime, sitting like a lump with my leg elevated is all I can really do.

*sigh*

At least I have the internet to keep me occupied.
I'm really grateful to my sister for letting me use her dropout subscription.

I wasn't even doing anything interesting. I was just walking. But I still managed to break my leg.

I'm writing this all down here mainly so I have a record for everything in case I need a reference.

So that's the epic saga of my broken leg.
I really hope I heal fast.

Last day

A part of me kind of wants to see how bad things get since they barely had the bear minimum and now they've gotten rid of a bunch of us.
And a part of me is just glad that I'm not going to be one of the ones trying to hold things together until the end.

Oh well, it's all over now.

Since there has now been reports of active cases of the coronavirus in my part of the country, management has decided that we might as well all work from home for a while.
We all have to have the ability to work from home in general for availability's sake so it's not that big a deal.
It a bit annoying because the set up in the office is easier to use but I guess I don't have to get up so early in the morning this week.

I have no idea how long this will last but we've been told they'll keep us informed.

The office Boss brought in a tree & we decorated it today in work.
He managed to get the last tree in Argos (No-one knows where last years tree went).

After we started putting it up it soon became apparent why this was still in the shop. The stand was made of plastic & before we even got it out of the box part of it was broken. It was only a bit from the bottom so we didn't think it would be too bad but it got worse.

As soon as we got the the legs on the stand assemble the bit connecting one of them broke. We got some sellotape to fix it up but be the time we had everything assembled we had to tape up 3 of the 4 legs and tape the stand down to stop the tree from leaning over.

Once we got it up and decorated we had used a lot of tape.

Halfway through the morning I heard a creek and thought,'oh, no, it going to fall' & sure enough, as soon as I looked over I see it topple over to fast for me to reach it.

The boss decided to just return the tree. So we took off all the decorations and managed to pack it back into the box it came in.

After lunch the boss managed to get a new tree from a different shop. This one had a metal stand so that was good.
Unfortunately it was a fancy one that was covered in glitter.
That's not going to come out of the floor for about 6 mounts.

We got it up an decorated though, so that's good.

They were doing some sort of health & wellness thing in work today.
I wasn't really paying attention for what it was for but the had things like free fruit, a basketball toss & a draw you could win prizes in.

The also had an oculus rift playing Beat Saber.

I've never played a VR game but I have seen clips of it on YouTube & it looked like a lot of fun.

I got have a go on my first break & my lunch break & got the high score both times.
I don't know if I kept it as they were gone by the time I'd finished work but I got over 111,000 points on my last go.

I does kind of make me want to get one even though it's an enormous waste of money.

Pokemon Go

lol, I got people in my office to play Pokemon Go.
To be fair, a few members of the Japanese Service Desk already had it but hadn't play in years, so it was more a matter of getting them back into it.

One if them spent so much time swiping on his phone battling team rocket last weekend they ended up with a blister on their index finger.
Poor guy.

Update

I haven't been hitting my goal of writing once a week very well lately.
So here's an update of what I've been doing recently.

I've got all my bills sorted for my new place.
I'm still waiting for my bins to arrive but I finally have them set up.
They should be here later on in the week.

I recently started playing Pokemon Go.
Back when it first came in & was popular I didn't have a smart phone so I never got into it.
Recently I was reminded it existed & I thought, why not, & got the app.
I figure maybe it'd get me out walking at least.
I rolled a dice to pick my team. It's the blue one.

I also got a rubix cube. I was out shopping & saw one so took it on a whim.
I can get up to having one face done with 2 rows matched on each adjacent side pretty consistently.
After that I have to resort to a walkthough.
I'm getting there.

Hummm, what else.

My brother came by for a flyby visit from England last weekend. He got to see the new place.
I've had my sister & my mum over to see it so far.
Mum gave me some plants, I don't know how long they'll last though.
The last plant I owned I managed to kill even though it was a cactus.

Lastly, for work, I've finally got a set of step by step instructions written up for everything thing we do in Global Service Desk.
I need to go back & edit them all again to make them more coherent but that's for some other days when I have time.

xt1me: (Default)

Since It's usually quiet on the weekends and since they have finally made me permanent (I'm still sorting thought the paperwork) I decided to make some step by step guides for new hires.
Since we don't have any proper training manuals.

It took me all weekend to make 3 guides.

Admittedly they are for the 3 main things we do & I was as thorough as possible, with pics & links & tips, but I did not expect it to take so long.

In work I'm part of the 'global' service support and next to us are the 'diamond' service support. Diamond customers pay extra to have additional things like personalized email templates & auto bonded ticketing systems. But for the most part the diamond guys do the exact same as us but since they have a lot less customer they have more free time. There's also the fact that as the European part of a predominately American customer base, fewer customer are even awake, let alone needing support.
All this means that sometime they do things like toss stress ball around the office.

Last Thursday 2 of those balls landed on my desk so I told they I was going to hide them.
So after they left I did, and left them a riddle on our personal slack channel.

This was it:

Hidden in the shadows of home is your treasure,

One with the mightiest and one with a lesser.

Though you look all day, it is not I you see,

This sinister clue is the only one for thee.

Ans 1 )

That day after they left I hid not only the 2 balls again but also one of their toy cows.
(I wasn't worried about them finding them over the weekend because I know the guy working that weekend was working from home.)
This was the riddle I gave them:

Two orbs parted & hidden from thee,

The furthest away they could possibly be.

First in a place of both boredom or mirth,

Disembodied voices haunt this earth.

Second from afar you talk to me,

Immaterial to solid with the touch of a Key.

Lastly the cow, a precarious planner,

In the middle of all, overside the banner.

Ans 2 )

This evening I hid the balls again.
I think this is the last time I'll do it. It's hard to come up with good riddles.

Not a bride, though I have rings,

Not a dog, though I bark,

In the day I give life,

But I give poison in the dark.

One hidden in me and one in my faux,

To find these ornaments you don't have far to go.

Ans 3 )

EDIT: I came in Tues morning to see the balls on my desk
I think it's safe to say they found them pretty fast.

SNOW!

We have a red weather warning where I live right now so the building were I work is closed.

However...
Being an international tech company means I can work remotely so no day off.

When the storm hits I might lose power but I'd take working over being frozen so I can't even hope for that.

*sigh*

I finally have a job in the IT sector.

I've only got an 11 month contract but it's a step in the right direction.
xt1me: (my pirate flag one piece)
Because I worked a Saturday shift for someone I got this Monday off, and because I'm working this Saturday I got this Tuesday off.
Do I get to enjoy my extra long weekend?
No, because I get food poisoning.
(At least I think it's food poisoning.)
But hey I get two days to recover right?
No, I still feel miserable and can't eat so I had to call in sick today as well.

*sigh*
I suppose it would be worse if I didn't have those two days off, I'd need to get a doctors note by now.

New Job

I had an interview yesterday and I just found out I got the Job.
It's starts on Monday, so the fact that they seam desperate probably helped.

It's only for a two mounth contract but it's better then nothing.

I'm Fired!

Mar. 20th, 2014 05:02 pm
xt1me: (my pirate flag one piece)
Well.. not so much fired as left go. The company can't afford to have so many people an since I've been with them for less then 12 mounts I've been left go. They're supposed to give a weeks notice but they are paying me off instead. I don't think they trust people not to try and pull something on their last week. Considering how they treat they staff I'm not surprised.

I think this is a sign.
I'm going to go and look up computer programming courses now
xt1me: (my pirate flag one piece)
So I have officially got a job and have received my first payslip. I'm still getting emergency tax though, so that has to be sorted.
I also defiantly off the dole.

I haven't actually finished the course yet though. I have to do two weeks unpaid leave in September and finish the two core modules.
But I getting that qualification. I stuck though all this rubbish. I am not giving up.

I don't think I've mentioned much about the job. To be honest The fact I had to keep a work diary for my work experience module kind of sucked out any desire I had to write about it.
It's a call centre working for a number of companies but the section I'm in works for a pay-as-you-go electricity meter company. (I wont name it just in case but lets just call it PPP ok). I'm currently working for the Top-up section though I had previously been doing care calls as well.

I really hope I get better at writing things down again, but I like wont.
