I give up

I couldn’t find any converter that did what I wanted to so I decided to try and make do with what I had scraped together only for my editor to decided that it didn’t like the footage so it’s not letting the sound work on some of the clips.

I put this project off for so long because it was really only for my own satiation and the converting was a pain. Now I think I’ll just give up on the lot of it.

The project, by the way, was editing together the two vids of the play before last, the Merry Wives of Windsor.

It’s a pity because the footage I have is good, it just won’t work on my editor.

I can’t afford to pay for a converter but I’m having trouble finding a free one that A) works and B) doesn’t cut the footage or C) leave a watermark.

I’m tiring a new one now.

I just spent all day converting so I could finaly get aound to editing them, only to find that the vidoe converter I found was only doing half of them. I though that the free trial cersion I got simply ment that I had to do it in 5 minuate chunks but it turns out that that was just for footage longer then 5 mins. For footage under that it just cut it in half.
It took me all day to realise.

I've got a differnt one now so I'll find out if it works tomorrow.

I just spend almost all day getting the footage fro the ‘Merry Wives of Windsor’ of 6 DVD and onto my harddrive.

I have no idea what format this was recorded on but 2 hours of video should not take up this much space.

I have a better version of the play up on YouTube and It’s got it’s own playlist and everything.

I’m done.

I shouldn’t be surprised really but the fact that the quality’s better means that it’s taking far longer then I thought it would to render.

Looks like I’m not going to be finished today after all.

I spent most of the day fiddling with all the settings I could find for the output of the video. I didn’t get though them all (there are far too many options) but I think I’ve finally got one setting that works.

WM8 PAL download 1024

A bit annoying ‘cause last I checked PAL was for American TVs, but who cares. I can finally make videos that aren’t so blurry.

Now, off to fix that play. (again)

I should have the rest of the parts up on YouTube by the end of the week

(I don't have after effects so all my special effects are lens flare)

(Edit: go here insted)

I’m not finished yet but I’ve stuck part 1 up

STOP UNSINKING. Stupid sound tracks

..I’m editing another draft of that script for a friend when I come across this sentence:

“Jordan shuts her eyes, as the implication of the knife sinking into him disgruntles her.”

Ouch! This sentence hurts.

And he was doing so well before that.

(
It’s a slasher film by the way)

If it’s not the sound looping it’s it unsinking.
What did converting it do to this footage?
xt1me: (Default)

I tend to edit until I need a break and then I forget about it.

This does not lend itself to a quick finish.

Of the two people that recorded the show I know at least one of them did the same course I did. They should know how to handle a camera!

I knew when I started this that it would be a challenge to splice the two recordings together as it was filmed on two different days. But I have to keep juggling things about to cover actors flubbing their lines, camera mistakes and that person with the cough who was right next to the camera mic.

I also decided, for some reason, to add some shiny effects when the fairies do magic. Of course, I don’t have any type of after effect software so I’ve been using different types of lens flares.

And I had forgot how long Act 2 was.

This’ll take a while.

I’m only on act 2 scene 2. I’ve had to do far too much fiddling just to get the sound working. I don’t know why Adobe is randomly chewing up the sound, but cutting it up and trying to match it to the video is a pain! It seems to be working now though.

But the colour balance! Trying to get the footage from the two cameras to even remotely look similar is nigh-impossible. The first scene hasn’t a hope because, for some reason, the lighting set up was different on the two days. I’ve messed around with colour and saturation, and anything else I could think of, but the fact that it was on two different cameras, recorded in two different formats, with no white balance, means my options are limited. Even if the footage did match the sound quality is different so what can I do?

Gaaaahhhhh!

The amount of twiddling I have to do even before I try to edit it together is really annoying.

I’ve finally started to edit the play.

I’ve only got act 1 done.

This’ll take a while.

It took ages to convert the files into something adobe will use and I think I may have mucked it up a bit because the quality is rubbish. Of course, it could also be the fact that it was recorded on two different handheld cameras using auto focus.

I’ve done my best but I don’t think I will look much better then it is. Especially since I don’t think either of them were white balanced. There's only so much I can do with colour correct.

Oh well. We’ll see how it turns out.

Right.

Note to self, Adobe Premiere Pro takes:

I got one of the recordings of the play. Now I just have to get the other and see if I can edit them together. I may need to get the uncompressed version of this though.

Still sick though.

Since I’ve been doing nothing the past few days but complain about my health I might as well try to write something else today.

Two of the actors form midsummer’s nights dream got someone to record the play on two separate nights. I’ve decided I’d like to try and get copies of the footage and try and splice it together. Not least because I’d like to actually have a chance to see the play for once. Backstage all I could do was listen to it.

Of course I first have to get the footage. I’ve contacted the two guys but they haven’t answered back yet. I don’t even know if it will be possible and the audio probably wont match but I’d like to have a go. We’ll see what happens.
