6 years ago I was part of a crew for a film being shot by a bunch of Americans.
Yesterday I finally got to see the finished product.

The Holy Fail was shown in the Gate cinema last night as part of the Indie Cork film festival.

I got to see my name on the big screen (though they misspelled my surname). And it wasn't small in a list of other names either. It took up the whole screen.
Also I had forgotten I had a small walk on bit when they needed an extra so I have now officially acted in a feature film ;)

It was great to finally see it all come together but I don't know if I could really enjoy it properly as everything came flooding back as I watched it. All I could remember was all the times I heard some of those lines over and over again & all the difficulties setting things up for each shot.

Still, I got to see people I have literally not seen in years & apparently the films been doing well in the festival circuit.

It was pretty cool.

This was shot back in 2012. I can't remember what the working title was but it called the Holy Fail now.
The main thing I remember about this shoot is that it was shot on a Red Cam. Even the lenses were worth more than I could possibly afford.
Looking at the pics from it suddenly brings back a lot of memories.
I can only vaguely remember the plot though.
(still haven't been paid)

Fallen Angel is officially finished!

I can see why it took so long, the director was did all the editing and VFX himself.

There was a premier screening last night (very fancy) and I finally got to see it for the first time since I shot it.
It turned out really good.

(It makes me miss filming but as I have a job now it's difficult to find time to do anything.)

Runner

So today I was a runner for Tyrone Productions (sp?) for a show called Music inc. I think it'll be shown in October sometime.
Nice crew.

It was mainly standing around outside but thankfully under cover as it was lashing raining.
I did get to see some of The Wanted live at the marquee. I'd never heard of them before but they're apparently a big deal considering there were fans waiting since before 6 when they weren't on until 9.

Well, at lest I'm home now and drying off.

I just got a call from a friend looking for someone to do props for a film shot in June. Unfortunately, not only am is the course still on then but so is the end of the run of 'As You Like It'.
It's such a pity, I'd love to do it.

Last day

Well for now.
There are about two scenes left, a flashback/reconstruction thing and a medical office, but nether of those have locations yet and so haven’t been scheduled.

Good thing that happened today: The guys surprised me with a cake for my birthday. Which was really nice of them.

Bad thing: I don’t think the sausages from lunch agreed with me, I don’t feel so good.

cold

We were indoors today, but we weren’t any warmer then yesterday because there was no working heating.

My main challenge today was cleaning the kitchen without actually moving anything because what was there looked perfect for the film. I mainly cleared away the obvious cobwebs and wiped down the counter tops and cooker.

It was a short day, though, just from 8:30 to 2:30.

Tomorrow’s going to be the busy one.

We were shooting from 8:30 to 5:30 but it was an incredibly relaxed shoot. Manly because a location fell through so we could film that scene so we had plenty of time for the others. We had a lot of out door work which was cold but at lest it was dry.

All indoor shots tomorrow though.

Sorted

My sister kindly volunteered to do the make-up for the witches. Which is fantastic because my face painting skills aren’t a patch on hers. She actually knows about colour and blending and stuff.

Also, I’ve finally got a time, and location, to meet to shot the film tomorrow. I hope I have all the props.

I went to the main location where we’ll be shooting the movie ‘Karmatic winds’. The fact that it belongs to someone’s great aunt means it looks perfect for the part and I don’t really have to do anything in regards to set dressing. But the fact that no one have lived in it for a while means that they are cobwebs every were. I am not looking forward to cleaning. I only really have to do one room as the sitting room was ok and we did the rest of what was needed while I was there but the kitchen is awful. It’s not dirty, just dusty but it still means I have to take everything out, wipe everything down and then put everything back. Not fun.

On the plus side the only extra thing to bring is a tablecloth so that part of my job is easy.

Next film

I agreed to art direct for a friends short film. It seems straight forward enough, though I think 15 minutes is a bit long for what is essentially just one gag. It’s on for three days in October so it shouldn’t cut into the preparations for Macbeth too much (I hope).

And the DOP gave me a pair of professional lighting gloves. Much better then the cheap gardening gloves I was using.

10:15am until 4pm.

We had only two outdoor locations. One was the convent for a quick scene of kids going to school and despite having about 15 children, we managed to get it done in under an hour. The other was just one shot by a lake.

And it took forever.

The problem was we needed to shoot in shadow to match an earlier scene. As it was a cloudy enough day this shouldn’t have been too bad. Unfortunately all the clouds seemed to be rain clouds and, as we could clearly see the rain on the lake, we had to wait for them to pass. Waiting around for a cloud to cover the sun that wouldn’t rain on us took about half the day. It was ridiculous.

(hurry up!)

If I had to pick one superpower that would be handy for a shot it would be Storm’s from the x-men. Definitely.

We have only one more scene to do and we’re finished. We just have to actually shoot it. I hope we get it done tomorrow because otherwise we’re doing it on Sunday and I’ll have to cancel D&D again.

And it’s about the tried time I’ve had to cancel at the last minute. I don’t mind not making it to a game but leaving it last minute is letting the others down and that’s just incredibly frustrating.

9:00am 'till 7:00pm

If the weather will just cooperate with us tomorrow we’ll be finished.

10:30am until 7:30pm.

We should have started at 10 but were late due to a number of factors, including forgetting the tripod. We're back on schedule now though.

I also had to walk to blackrock castle (where we were shooting). It took me an hour.

Anywhere that takes an hour to walk to is too far away to walk.

4:30pm (though I was there at 4) until 1:50pm.

I didn’t know today was going to be a night shoot. At least it wasn’t an all night shoot. And I get tomorrow (today) off.

From 1pm until 7:50pm.

I had a lot shorter day today, though the near constant drizzle as we tried to get some outdoor shots done was extremely annoying.

9:00am to 7:30pm.

But the scene we did manage to do included a bit where a letter was set on fire. Lots of standing around hope the fire alarm didn’t go off and ready to leap in to open doors and windows after each take. Not to mention having to clean up the ash every time.

8:30am ‘till 8:30pm today.

We were behind schedule but we caught up today. We might actually get this done by Wednesday after all.
