Just made a little something for my D&D group

I've missed video editing .

It's been awhile, so I decided to try my hand at editing again. Thing is, it's been a while because I haven't really been inspired to make anything. So I was watching a bunch of FMVs (which is why I decided that I really want to get back into video editing) and I came across this 47 minutes YouTube video with trailers from all the Assassin's Creed games up until Valhalla.

And, well, since one of the more annoying parts of video editing is just getting all the footage together I figured I'd use this and make a GMV 'cause why not? ¯\_()_/¯

The only thing is, usually when I'm making music videos I would start with this song and then kind of half edit it in my head with something before I even started, so doing it the other way around means I was kind of stuck. I came across a song from Shinedown “Cut the Cord” which has lyrics that includes “Switchblade on the edge of your wrist. Which means of course this is definitely been used for an Assassin's Creed GMV before but I couldn't really think of anything better so I decided to go with it.

That's not to say this didn't end up sitting 1/2 done on my computer for a couple of weeks but oh well.

I used DaVinci Studios for this. I only did like a few seconds editing on the software that I already had and I couldn't stick it so I went looking for something better. I must say; I have missed being able to see waveforms when editing. I've only done the bare minimum of tutorials from YouTube so I'm probably missing a load of little tricks but this seems to have worked out.

There's a lot of invisible edits here, like slightly speeding up or slowing down clips just so it'll hit the beat where I want them to. It's one of the hazards of working with existing footage rather than raw footage. I also flipped a few of the images just so it flowed better with what I had. There's also one bit where I speed up a really horrible slow mo that was in the original Assassin's Creed one trailer so I think I fixed that. Though if I’ve done it right you won't be able to tell. Especially the ones where I just changed the order from where it appeared in the original trailer. There's no way anyone's gonna notice it unless they, like me, were going through footage over and over again for editing it.

Anyway it's done now.

Didn't that too bad I suppose.

I had to take holiday hours so I took last week off.
Of course I can't go anywhere right now so I decided to do a project I've had the back of my mind for quiet some time.
(The most I've done for it in the past was write out the lyrics & their time-codes)

I decided to do another animated music video.

Of course once I had started I realised I had a song that was over 5 mins long.
:(

I had the idea to do it shadow puppet style to make things a bit easier on my (and because it would be easier to draw) but I don't currently have any animation software.
I used GIMP to draw the things & OpenShot Video Editor to make the actual Vid.
That may have been a mistake because it really wasn't build for precision work. But the only other video editing software I have is Lightworks & I couldn't even figure out how to rotate things in there.

I need to find a bunch of tutorial vids before I work with that again. At lest OpenShot is pretty intuitive.

The song is "The Watchmaker's Apprentice" by "The Clockwork Quartet" (they only have 3 songs which is a pity because they're good.)

In the interests of not being stuck inside all the time & getting some exercise I've been talking walks every (well most) days.
It's been mainly to the nearest pokéstop and back but at lest that's something.

One sunny day last month I decided to make my next video editing protect be less labor intensive since all wanted to do is figure out where everything was on the program. So I took a bunch off short vids on my phone. I made sure to leave out all the roads, cars & buildings and just get green nature shots. I grabbed some free music online & banged this together.

I had this mostly finished & took a break from it. And then I forgot to go back to it.
It's been sitting around for ages so I decided just to post it today.

I also used this as an excuse to test out the photoshop software I got to make the thumbnail.

Did you know that while I was writing this out I went back to YouTube to get the link info and found it has been copyrite claimed?
I just posed it! This music is from a royalty free website. (freesounds.org)

I'm not planing on making money off it or anything but it just ridiculous.

Some time ago I got a new computer.
Since I now had something that could handle editing again, I downloaded some free software.
I had an idea to test it using footage from Dark & Dicey which I had finished watching some time before.

After I started working on what was supposed to be a sort little stupid idea I realised that what I had planned meant I would have to go through about 44 hrs of footage.

opps

I've been doing bits on & off since but with D&D presets: TORCH starting and since I should have more time now I'm working from home I finally got around to finishing it.

(The D&D game Nate's DMing also inspired me to get around to finishing this)

The problem with the family getting together for the holidays is that some members can't help but make terrible puns.
I made a vid )

I saw the movie. It was good.

I got a Guardians of the Galaxy Lego set for my birthday so I decided to try my hand at stop motion. I took me awhile to do this & then I tried to fix all my mistakes when edited. It didn't really work.
I accidentally knocked the camera a few time when taking the pics & I was using natural light so when the sun went behind a cloud it changed the colour balance. I also set it up on the floor so I'd have more space to work but it meant I had to get up & down every time.
I did pretty much everything wrong.
But hey, I made a thing.

I had a notion to try my hand at animating a music video.
This may have been a terrible idea as I have never done anything longer then a few seconds before. I also can not draw. However I know I'm not going to get any better at anything if I don't practise and you don't get good at something without failing a million times first.
So here it is.

I picked Aether Shanty by Abney Park solely because that was the song I was listening to when I decided to do this.
I started on the 23rd of may and almost 6 weeks of constantly getting distracted and one really sore arm later it is finally finished.

One of my main problems was that I couldn't get the song to work in flash so I animated everything and then imported it into Adobe Premier Pro.

The Zombie Walk was yesterday.
Here's a quick slide show I made of the pics I got.

Last year I decided I wanted to try one of those time lapse photo projects. The one where you take a photo of something every few weeks and put it all together to see how things change.
There was a hub-cap stuck in a tree next to the bus stop near my home so I decided to do use that as my subject. I took the pictures with my mobile phone.
You might notice a change in quality a few times, that's because changed phones. Fist because I lost one, then because I broke one.
I also was going to take more picture then this but the bad weather we've had recently has finally knocked down the hub-cap.

This kind of turned out a bit of a mess.

The song is something I found in the sample music folder on my computer: Sleep Away by Bob Acri

I’ve started a new project on youtube. I’m going to try and have one new video up every week.

To do this though I needed a new channel. Which meant I had to make a new google account. Which was far more complicated then it needed to be. And I discovered I misspelt my new email address. Being dyslexic sucks.

Anyway, it’s done now. I have an intro video up and everything.

I just have to see how long this lasts. (Though my last notion like this was this Live Journal and I’m still doing ok with that.)

Here, watch a film I helped make about two years ago.

Ugh. I spent so much time trying to fix the sound on this and YouTube or something has caused bits of it to unsink. So annoying.

And I can’t help but spot all the mistakes like camera wobbles and boom mics and actors looking at the camera etc.

Still, my snow turned out ok.

This is the film shoot I was complaining about here.

He ran out of time (and patience) to render all the balls but it still turned out ok.

I have a better version of the play up on YouTube and It’s got it’s own playlist and everything.

I’m done.
xt1me: (Default)

I am sick of this now.

Why did I decide to do this again?

Rest of play under cut )

Edit: go here insted
xt1me: (Default)

I should have the rest of the parts up on YouTube by the end of the week

(I don't have after effects so all my special effects are lens flare)

(Edit: go here insted)
