Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

You know how in movies when the protagonists explain the plan before you see it it means something goes wrong? Well in this, something goes wrong, then something else goes wrong, then another thing goes wrong and another. They really keep the tension building.
And it’s funny to. They know when not to take themselves seriously. Getting Simon Pegg in it helps, of course, but the first time you see a message fail to self-destruct until Hunt give some percussive maintenance you know it going to have some good moments in it.
This was a highly entertaining movie. I must admit I was surprised. Well done them.
Can I just say how glad I am that they didn’t have the leading guy and girl hook up. I know it’s a tradition in sequels to kill off or otherwise disappear the past love interest off screen just so the guy can have a new girl for a new movie but it a horrible cliché that never works well. And these guys knew it and played it up wonderfully. It looks at the start that that’s what they’re doing only to go in a completely different direction. The leading lady had a love interest; he’s killed at the start. And instead of unrealistically jumping the next guy she comes across she actually spends the movie morning and contemplating revenge. I’m pretty sure the only kiss we see (actually a distraction for a mark) is only for the trailer. I love this movie. It’s so unexpectedly good.
And there’s a little call back to Minority Report at one point with a fancy car that has the hand sweepy thing. You’d know it if you saw it.
The gadgets are cool if unrealistic as always. And of course there’s action dribbling out it ears.
And if the plots basic and kind of generic it makes up for it with everything else. And it has a surprisingly nice little ending. (if as inplausible as everything else)
I highly recommend it.
