Well it's over. And it went well.
You know, when I agreed to be back stage staff I didn’t think that meant I’d be all of it. I was stage manager, props master, and all of the crew. I really found out why there’s usually more then person doing this.
That said it wasn’t too bad. I got some help from some of the actors. It was really the last scene change was the worst, I had to get on seven chairs (it should have been nine but we hadn’t enough) and give the actors goblets for the toast (also didn’t have enough of those either). Difficult but not impossible. The last night I ended up actually having to wait for the actors to finish changing.
No, the main problem was really the fact that after I gave the cue for the lights and sound I had to disentangle myself from the headphones, get the stuff on and/or off stage then rush back to the cans to cue the lights and sound again.
Also, it was roasting. The cork art theatre isn’t very big and they don’t like leaving the air-conditioning on during the performances since the actors don’t have mics so we all felt like we were slowly being cooked alive. I feel sorry for the two in the hot box at the back doing the lights and sound and the actors who had to wear layers of clothing, some of it was wool.
But were done now and the audiences seemed to like it. While I don’t think we ever had a sold out show we did get a lot of people.
All in all it was a good run.
