Why is it when you’re looking for something you can never find it?

I was looking for a ruler today. I know there’s one somewhere. I know one exists in this house. I know I own one, more then one. I just can't find it.

I have pens and pencils and rubbers and crayons and markers and paintbrushes and pliers and sandpaper and glue sticks and a scalpel (and that’s just on my desk) and I’m a horder by nature so I haven’t thrown it away. So where is it?

I know the last time I saw it was probably years ago but it’s got to be somewhere.
