This should be fun :)
Oct. 16th, 2010 08:05 pmI'm going to be doing the special effects for a short. It basically involved a woman giving birth to a demonic alien baby. There's going to be blood and guts everywhere so it's going to be very messy but great fun.
There's talk of using real meat for this, which I hope to avoid because of a number of issues like storage, smell and heath and safety, especially as we are going to throwing it on our actors. Blood is easy enough to make and for alien blood we can do the same thing the makers of Predator did (use the fluid found in glow sticks) We can use red jelly for translucent chunks and maybe the placenta. I also found a suggestion online about using spaghetti and food dye for veins and arteries.
Indy Mogul ’s backyard FX has some great tips.
(The following video is really gross)
They also have how to build a blood cannon, which we might try if the college has an air compressor we can use because it would be handy for other projects as well. (It could also be used for tossing debris and small explosions)
I think I'm going to have a lot of fun on this shoot (to make up for the last one) I just need to convince them not to use the meat baby idea.
